Asian Market Opens for Pennsylvanica Dutch Poultry

Over 100,000 pounds of Bell & Evans chicken were shipped to Japan in response to a recent foreign trade mission sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Secretary Hayes visited the Bell & Evans plant in Fredericksburg, Lebanon County, to send off the first shipment and to sign the official certificate of authentication. Japanese buyers required that each shipment be accompanied by a “product certificate,” stating that Bell & Evans chickens are “Pennsylvania-raised-and-processed,” are derived from chickens fed a custom all-vegetable grain with no animal by-products, and are free from all drug, antibiotic and sulfa residues, artificial growth hormones, preservatives, and agricultural chemicals.
